Dear Mommie

(This is a letter Mary Ellen wrote to me. In the 3rd grade, she was harrassed by the father of her best friend. Afraid to tell anyone, she spent the entire year unable to sleep alone. This was the biggest family crisis we ever faced. I did not mind her sleeping with me at all, but knew she had to be able to sleep alone. She was in private therapy that whole year, until she finally broke her silence. Within two weeks, she and the family were back to normal. Poor little girl, she had all the support in the world. I was a very open and liberal Mom and could and would have helped her, but she choose to suffer in silence, but it was not from a lack of trying on our part.)
